What is the "Reader"?

neoCLIP UDF Reader is a file system driver that enables CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW drives to read CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW discs formatted with neoCLIP. You can install the reader from the neoCLIP installation CD-ROM by launching [Setup.exe] in the [Reader] folder. You can also download it here.
Note: You cannot use the neoCLIP UDF Reader under Windows 3.1/NT/2000/XP.

How can I turn off auto-start for neoCLIP?

Use the following method to stop neoCLIP automatically launching when starting up Windows.

Windows 98/98 SE/Me/XP Users
Launch the System Configuration Utility by selecting [Run] from the [Start] menu, enter "msconfig" in the "name" area and click [OK]. Under the [Startup] tab, uncheck [neoCLIP], then reboot the system.

Windows 2000 Users
There is no [msconfig] window, so you cannot stop neoCLIP automatically launching when starting up Windows.

How can I quit neoCLIP?

neoCLIP, itself, does not have a quit command. Quit it using one of the following procedures:

Windows 98/98 SE/Me Users:
Press the [Ctrl], [Alt] and [Del] keys simultaneously and terminate [neoCLIP] on the Window that appears.

Windows 2000/XP
Press the [Ctrl], [Alt] and [Del] keys simultaneously to open the Windows Task Manager. Quit neoCLIP under the [Processes] tab.

I cannot read the CD-RW disc I used with neoCLIP on another CD-ROM drive.

neoCLIP uses UDF format writing and only a PC with UDF software will be able to read the content of your CD-RW. You can download a UDF Reader from our website. Also make sure that the PCs under which you are trying to read your files have CD-ROM drives with multi-read capability.

I change the write speed in neoCLIP Properties, but it reverts to the default speed when I restart Windows.

neoCLIP does not save the speed settings when it quits. You need to set the write speed each time you restart Windows.

I tried to specify the neoCLIP disc as the [Backup media] in the Windows Backup tool, an error occurred when the disc was full.

You cannot specify the neoCLIP disc as the [Backup media] in the Backup tool. An error occurs under Windows 98/98 SE/Me, and neoCLIP discs are not recognized by the Backup tool under Windows 2000/XP.

[Windows XP] Can multiple users use neoCLIP? Can you use neoCLIP after switching users?

neoCLIP controls the drive under the user who started up Windows. Multiple users cannot use neoCLIP simultaneously, so other users cannot use neoCLIP logging off then logging on under their account.

[Windows XP] I right clicked on the neoCLIP icon in the task tray, but the neoCLIP menu appears behind the IME toolbar.

Several programs have this problem with the IME toolbar, not just neoCLIP. We recommend you minimize the IME toolbar for easier use.

The message "A file is currently open" appears, and I cannot eject the disc.

Is there an open file on an open disc? Shut down all other applications, then select [Eject].

I cannot view the DVD I recorded on a DVD-ROM drive.

Check that the DVD-ROM drive supports the recordable DVD disc. Some DVD-ROM drives do not support playing DVD-R/RW or DVD+RW/+R discs. Contact the drive maker for more details on which discs the DVD-ROM drive supports.

5-11

[Windows XP] I want to disable the Windows XP recording function, so I can use neoCLIP, but there is no recording tab in the drive properties window.

The recording tab does not appear if the drive is a CD-ROM drive, or the CD-RW drive is not supported by Windows XP.

[Windows 2000] The system reboots when I try to access a formatted disc.

We have confirmed that the system reboots when trying to access a formatted disc under Windows 2000 with Intel Ultra ATA driver version 6.10 installed.

We have verified that this problem does not occur when using the Intel Application Accelerator (IAA), which integrates the Intel Ultra ATA driver. (This was verified in February 2003 using Intel IAA version 2.3.)

Download the Application Accelerator from the Intel Website.

[Windows 98] The ASPI Reset Tool does not work as in the explanation.

Try the following method. This method requires you to replace standard ASPI Manager ("wnaspi32.dll" and "apix.vxd") files under Windows 98 using the System File Checker. You will require the Windows 98 or 98 SE system CD-ROM for this method. (If your computer only came with a recovery CD-ROM, you do not need it.)

  1. Open [Start] -> [Programs] -> [Accessories] -> [System Tools] -> [System Information]. The Microsoft System Information window opens.
  2. Select [Tools] -> [System File Checker] from the menu bar. The System File Checker window opens. (You can also open this window by selecting [Start] -> [Run]. Enter "sfc" and click [OK].)

  4. Insert the system CD-ROM in the drive. Specify the [Win98] folder on the system CD-ROM under [Restore from]. (If you only have a recovery disc, enter "c:\windows\options\cabs".) Click [OK]. Specify "C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM" in the [Save file in] field.
  5. A window appears asking you if you want to backup the file currently in the system. Click [OK].
  6. Once processing is complete click [Yes] to restart your computer.
  7. Repeat the above procedure for the [apix.vxd] file. Enter "apix.vxd" in the System File Checker, then click [Start].

[Windows 98] neoCLIP is not stable.

If you get a message while recording, the computer freezes while recording, or a Windows unexpected error message appears, neoCLIP may be unstable for one of the following reasons.

  1. Check your drive connections and settings, especially if you are using a USB drive. Having multiple devices, especially devices using the same interface type (e.g. SCSI), connected to your computer may cause data transfer to be unstable. Try disconnecting all other devices.
  2. Do you have any third-party writing software installed on your computer? There may be conflict with the ASPI Manager. Uninstall all third-party writing software.
  3. The ASPI Manager may be unstable.
The ASPI Manager is the system file that communicates between the software and the hardware. neoCLIP uses the Windows standard ASPI Manager under Windows 98. If you have 3rd-party hardware software or drivers installed on your computer, the Windows standard ASPI Manager may have been overwritten when that software was installed. Reset the ASPI Manager using the ASPI Reset tool. If you could not reset the ASPI Manager using the Reset tool, try this method.
  4. Do you have any programs running in the background, e.g. virus checker or system agents? These types of programs are automatically launched when you startup Windows and are always running in the background. They may affect recording, so try exiting these programs then try recording again.

You can turn off background programs using the following method, so they do not automatically launch when you startup Windows. You can use the same method to turn them on again later.

Select [Run] from the [Start] menu to launch the System Configuration Utility. Enter "msconfig" in the "name" area and click [OK]. Under the [Startup] tab, uncheck the other running background software, then reboot the system.
  5. The disc you are using may not be compatible with the recording drive. Try using a brand of disc recommended by the drive maker. Check the maker's website or user's manual for more details on disc compatibility.
  6. Have you got the latest drive firmware installed?
The firmware is the program that is written on the drive itself that controls the drive functionality. Check the firmware version. If there is a newer version, please update it. Check your drive manufacturer's website for more details.
  7. Are you using a power saver function?
Please deactivate this function while recording.
An error may occur during recording if you have enabled the Windows power saver function. Open the [Power Management] window from the Control Panel. Set the [Turn off hard disks] or [Turn off monitor] options under the [Power Schemes] tab to [Never].
  8. Other
Updating the software itself can improve it's performance. Try updating to the latest version of neoCLIP.
